London gigs diary: 27 August – 2 September

At The Drive-In’s reformation tour passes through O2 Academy in Brixton on Tuesday night.

There’s some notable stuff happening this week, if you’ve the energy to go out after Reading / Leeds, Festibelly and Notting Hill Carnival. Monday night sees Jade Hopcroft do her studied, haunting folk pop thing at The Bedford, which is worth checking out if you’re yet to see her. At The Drive-In and The Whitest Boy Alive both headline their own big shows on Tuesday, at Brixton Academy and The Coronet respectively. Hoxton Bar & Kitchen seems the place to be on Wednesday, with the buzzy F.U.R.S and Wild Swim opening up for Canadians Memoryhouse, and there’s also an opportunity to catch the promising Sian King over at The Slaughtered Lamb. Recent RCA signings Swim Deep top the bill at the Vice issue launch at Old Blue Last on Thursday, with fellow Brummies Jaws also on the bill, and Australia’s Lucy Mason is sure to draw a crowd down the road at Queen Of Hoxton. We’ve been fans of Strangers’ romantic, synth infused 80s pop for a while now, so their single launch show for “Safe/Pain” at Koko on Friday comes recommended.
