London gigs diary: 20 August – 26 August

Eye Emma Jedi headline Barfly on Wednesday in celebration of their debut UK single “Sin”.

With Reading and Leeds happening this weekend, there’s not an abundance of shows in London right now – but what we do have is a handful festival ‘warm up’ shows, where big bands play small venues in preparation for their sets to thousands of people in a field later on in the week: The Joy Formidable (The Lexington, Tuesday) and Australia’s DZ Deathrays (The Hippodrome, Kingston, Thursday) are amongst these. London via Norway (and Liverpool) five piece Eye Emma Jedi headline Barfly on Wednesday to launch their single “Sin”, out recently on Killing Moon Records, and that same night the much hyped female duo from LA, Deap Vally, play a sold out show for Communion at Tamesis Dock in Vauxhall. You may have heard The Other Tribes’ excellent, summer capturing debut single “Skirts” recently – and there are two chances to catch them in a live setting on Friday and Saturday.
