Half a dozen wolves
So we’re really into Let’s Buy Happiness at the moment, and it seems the rest of the music press share this sentiment. Forget your Being A Dickhead’s Cool affiliated synth pop – it appears shoegazey, ethereal MBV / Cocteau Twins style songwriting is back in.
After playing their debut London show for us at The Windmill a couple of Fridays back (17 September) to a substantial crowd, they’ve gone on to – in the space of about a week – pick up plaudits from The Guardian, Record Of The Day and BBC 6Music, where their forthcoming single Six Wolves was made “Record Of The Week” last week. It’s all hotting up for the amiable Geordie quintet, who we feel will soon join the list of LFC alumni who go on to heady things (see The Wombats, Mumford & Sons, Micachu, Anna Calvi, We Have Band and Dansette Junior before them).
This is the track that’s causing all the fuss. It gets a general release on Monday 18 October – copies are limited and can be reserved through the band’s website. The video was directed by their lead singer Sarah Hall, the same person behind the rather charming artwork – showing everyone the DIY spirit in independent music is still very much alive and well…
